Body Love Project: Meagan's Story
Body Love.
What’s it gonna take? What’s it gonna take for you to love yourself wholly and powerfully?
What hesitations are allowing to hold you back right now? For Meagan, signing up for the Body Love Project meant that she had to overcome some doubts: “Would my teenage daughters be ok with me doing this? Should I lose 20 lbs first? Is it ok to spend this kind of money on myself?
After a good chat with me, Meagan took a giant leap forward in her journey of self-love and acceptance and booked her session. Together, we created an experience that transformed her in more ways than one. I truly love holding space for my clients. They are really the ones doing the work. I just interpret their thoughts, ideas and feelings into something visual. The resulting images are a powerful reminder of the growth, empowerment and even triumph that we created during the photoshoot.
This particular project, the Body Love Project, is a collection of images from clients who have a story to tell. They want their experiences to be an inspiration to others. They are looking for a little something to solidify what they are allllmost convinced they deserve: to love themselves wholly and without reservation. That we are valuable and amazing despite those nagging limiting beliefs.
Meagan also has three daughters and the four of them have survived some personal trauma in their lives. Her shoot was way more than just pretty pictures. It was an act of bold defiance. A loud statement that screams, I’M WORTH IT. She is not only an inspiration to the women similarly situated throughout the world, but, most importantly, to her daughters. Read her story below.
I want people to know, that just because you've been through a lot or have had bad things happen to you, those events do not define who you are.
If you had asked me as a child, or even a teenager, what do you want to be when you grow up? I would have said that wanted to be a mom and a wife. I graduated high school, got married, had 3 girls back-to-back. Unfortunately, my husband at the time got into drugs and some terrible things happened to my daughters. This was the toughest thing to go through as a mom.
I got divorced and raised 3 kids by myself. I was determined to live in an all-female-girl-power-household and so I empowered my girls to make decisions for themselves, dress themselves, and paint their nails whatever color they wanted. This built back the confidence and femininity that had been taken away from them.
My daughters are now 15,16, and 17: STRONG, INDEPENDENT, BEAUTIFUL WOMEN. My daughters are my best friends. We have an amazing relationship, and we build each other up.
I wanted to do this shoot to remind my daughters, nieces, and adult women in my family that we are strong, we are beautiful, we are sexy! We are worthy!
Graciela, has an amazing personality, and we were all instantly best friends. It was so fun! We played some Beyoncé music and I started to feel sexy. We laughed, we cried. The whole thing was an amazing experience.
I was very emotional after my session. I had come so far; to be able to be in a room, with minimal clothes on, and feel sexy and confident. My confidence has definitely received a huge boost! I even started curling my hair (thanks to our makeup artist, Scharon, for showing me how) and wearing more shorts out. I'm SEXY in this body, and my pictures prove it!
Congratulations to Meagan for being bold and taking the big leap!
